Prayer rhythms for children and youth

Simplified version of our prayer rhythms

Morning Prayer (from Psalm 103)

Get comfortable in your chair and close your eyes if it helps you to focus.
Take some slow deep breaths and relax.

Be still and know that I am God.
Take a moment to pause and be still

Bless you Lord, bless your holy name
What do you want to call God today? Friend? Healer? King? Something else?

Bless you Lord for all you have given today
What good things have you got in your life today?

Bless you for forgiving me when I get things wrong
Think about things you are sorry for today and know that God forgives you

Bless you for rescuing us from bad situations
Say the names of places or people that are in trouble and need help.

Bless you that you love me and care for me
Think about how God loves you and cares for you.

Midday Prayer

I have not changed the words of the Lord’s prayer as many children and young people will have heard it before at school and may already know it off by heart, so it already feels familiar.
Get comfortable in your chair and close your eyes if it helps you to focus.  Take some slow deep breaths and relax.

Be still and know that I am God.
Take a moment to pause and be still

Our Father in heaven, Honoured be Your name

What can you say about God today?

Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven
Name places around the world that need God’s help

Give us today our daily bread

Tell God what you need today

And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us
Think about the things you feel sorry for today – God forgives you

Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil

Tell God about situations bad things that we need rescuing from

For Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, Forever and ever

End of Day Prayer

Get comfortable in your chair and close your eyes if it helps you to focus.  Take some slow deep breaths and relax.

Be still and know that I am God.
Take a moment to pause and be still

Think back over your day and notice all the times when you felt goodness and blessing?
What are the things from today you want to say thank you for.
If you would like to you can say those out loud

When you think back, did you notice times when you didn’t feel blessed? When you felt sad, or worried, angry or scared?
If you can, you can leave those situations here.

Who have you met today who needs to have a blessing?
You can say their names out loud if you like.

----

At the end you could say: “We’ve come to the end of this Renew time, but as you go, know that you can take this peace and stillness with you".

Finish with the host blessing each person present by name.
