Slow Down, Show Up and Pray

By Ruth Rice

A practical look at how we can renew wellbeing in our own lives and our local communities. After Ruth Rice unexpectedly found herself grappling with her own mental health, she began to look for ways to renew her own wellbeing. As she introduced simple habits woven around prayer and stillness into her life, God began to give her a heart to help others too. The Renew Wellbeing charity was born, assisting churches to open accessible, safe spaces on the high street for those who have mental ill health. Ruth shares why the renew centre / cafe model is so different, looking at the three important principles of being present, being prayerful, and being in partnership. Full of helpful resources, readers will learn how to connect, keep learning, get active, take notice and give in order to maintain their own wellbeing. Ruth inspires, encourages and enables the church to step out and provide Renew spaces. This timely and insightful book is packed full of practical resources to help local communities journey alongside each other to renew wellbeing.

Renewable Wellbeing

By Ruth Rice

Awarded "Audio Book Of The Year" at the Christian Resources Together awards 2025

Renewable Wellbeing outlines the five ways of wellbeing as modelled in Jesus and offers a manifesto of change to help create simpler and more sustainable ways of being church in a world that desperately needs peace and hope. Wellbeing is at the very heart of the gospel but, in well-intentioned efforts to keep activities running, are over busy churches simply burning-out and missing this peace of Jesus?

Renewable Wellbeing reveals how re-discovering the Jesus way of wellbeing is our best hope for a tired church in a broken world. Examining episodes from Jesus’ life as seen in John’s Gospel, Ruth Rice unpacks the five culture shifts she believes the church needs today to renew wellbeing in our churches: connecting with our identity, learning the new economy of the kingdom, getting active in community, taking notice of simplicity in our habits, and giving in renewable ways and sensing our call to serve.

Renewable Wellbeing is an invitation to simpler, safer and more sustainable ways of being church in a world in need of communities of wellbeing.

You can order the book from St Andrew's Bookshop plus other Christian book shops and retailers.
